Hi I’m Srimati lal and I’m a artist, writer and curator by profession. I was born in Calcutta, studied at Loreto House and then did my BA at Presidency College where i was the Ishan scholar in English Literature in the 1980’s.I have written three books of poetry: The Window (Writers Workshop, 1986), Six Poems (London, 1997) and The Warriors: I Guerrieri, published in English and Italian (London, 2006). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Srimati_Lal

THE ICCR / 'INDIAN COUNCIL FOR CULTURAL RELATIONS' IN CALCUTTA IS HONOURING ME AS A LEADING ARTIST BY EXHIBITING MY PAINTINGS AT THE ICCR GALLERY FROM 21 TO 28 AUGUST, 2015.

You can also log on to my website and see my work - www.srimatilal.com

I have been a early riser and doing yoga since my childhood as I’m very health conscious.  I’m not a pure vegetarian but overall on a daily basis i like to eat vegetarian food only. I like watching fashion and designing show and also cooking shows. I’m a very spiritual person, there is only one creator of us but we see in different forms. I always believe one should live an honest and peaceful life; one should not be greedy in his or her own life. I strongly believe in using Indian based products. India is a country of rich culture, history and traditions and there is also a huge demand for Indian handicraft product in both national and international market and this is the reason I shopped at shopatplaces.com because it sells those products which are famous for their places in India and i found it a very good idea. Also the quality of the products are very good.In the above pic the bhagalpuri dupatta is the product of this website only. This idea is definitely helping people of our country to know the enormous talents of our artisans and also preserving the art and craft of India’s culture.

I love cooking food and reading books. Designing has also attracted me, I love being there between flowers and trees as i love gardening and i find lucky enough to have a garden in front of my home. I like to visit various cafes in Calcutta. My husband and me are regular customers of Cafes in Calcutta, Wise Owl cafe, to name one.

My source of inspiration in my life has been my father who has left for his heavenly abode but he is always present in my heart and will always be. My father, Purushottama Lal was a great poet and professor. He was the founder of the ‘Writers Workshop’ and  is perhaps best known as the translator into English of the entire Indian epic poem Mahabharata. He is also a recipient of the covetous Padma Shree for his contribution in literature.

I feel honored to learn from some greatest legends of the country.

"We walked through sodden streets,

 Clinging desperately to the shadows

  Of all our past lives."
from 'THE WARRIORS'  ~  London, 2006,

I have contributed hundreds of articles on contemporary art to newspapers and journals, such as the Times of India, Indian Express, Hindustan Times, The Telegraph, The Pioneer, Tehelka, Seminar, Art Etc., The Statesman, The Asian Age, SUNDAY Magazine, Poetry Chain, Confluence of London, and Friday Gurgaon.

In the end i would again urge all of you to promote our India ethnic wear by choosing them over branded clothes and let’s give a boost and instill a sense of confidence in our local artisans by buying their products.
